What does the future bring? We alone have the answer. It has always been war. War with between humans. War between species. War between ourselves. War is the fundamental fabric of the universe. Dare we defy it? In Beowulf war is seen as a way of life, while some would call it barbaric to them it was normal an average day. War to them was like an argument, it would settle feuds and even territorial disputes over what clan controlled what. It wasn’t just a way to settle disputes it basically summed up a person’s worth, you were either a good warrior or dead to put it bluntly. Young boys at an early age would dream of being great warriors. After battles warriors would brag about future adventures they were portrayed as acts of heroism. One would be exiled and dishonored if found guilty of cowardliness. An ideal warrior is heroic and fearless and willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of others. In Beowulf, Beowulf is the ideal hero brave, has experience killing monsters and men alike in time learns to become a great leader and puts his people before himself. War isn’t always combat sometimes war is a political battle like in Lanval in which he is wrongly accused by Guinevere, King Arthurs wife. Lanval is also at war with himself in a sense for he can betray his beloved and reveal her name and all accusations would be proven false or he can keep his promise to never reveal his mistress name and remain true to his beloved.
